Résumé :
The confrontation of modern theatre companies with the numerous challenges of ancient drama and especially of 5th century BC tragedy in Athens has turned the interest of researchers towards the reappraisal of the parameters of their staged realization in the Athenian theatre, for which they were written. Apart from the stage indications drawn from the few relevant dramatic texts that have survived, research has always stumbled on the very conflicting interpretations of the meagre archaeological remains attributed to the ‘theatre of the Great Tragic Dramatists’. New archaeological investigations of the Athenian theatre in recent years, as part of the work to preserve its remains, have shed new light on many issues of its spatial, architectural and functional development. Particular emphasis has been placed on the central issue of the form and function of the classical stage, on which so much ink has been spilled and so many contradictory reconstructions have been proposed, with the result that the scenic relevance of the dramatic and architectural space constitutes a major challenge.

Membre de l’éphorie d’Athènes (Ministère hellénique de la culture), Christina Papastamati-von Moock est archéologue et conservatrice du théâtre de Dionysos Éleuthereus et de l’Odéon d’Hérode Atticus, sur le flanc sud de l’Acropole. Elle est également responsable des programmes de restauration du Comité pour le Sanctuaire et le Théâtre de Dionysos. Depuis 2013, elle coordonne toutes les actions relatives à la tenue du Festival d’Athènes et d’Épidaure dans l’Odéon d’Hérode Atticus ainsi que la protection et la conservation du monument.
Christina Papastamati-von Moock séjournera à Lyon et au laboratoire HiSoMA en novembre 2024 en tant que professeure invitée par l’ENS de Lyon.
Collaboratrice du projet KINSPECTA (KINesic Engagement and Experience of SPECTAtors from Greek Antiquity to the present”), Mme Papastamati-von Moock donnera deux conférences, les 22 et 28 novembre.
